The news on The Bridesmaids box office week two is that it only dropped 20%. Think about that. According to box office mojo that 20% decline was less than recent comedies like The 40 Year Old Virgin and The Hangover. Bridesmaids grossed $20 million dollars on weekend two and the powers that be didn't predict that it would make even $20 million on weekend one. That means that not only is it a hit, it is a hit compared to the male comedies. The box office stands now at almost $60 million.
Check out Sophia Savage's awesome screed at Thompson on Hollywood going off on how comparing Bridesmaids and The Hangover reveals Hollywood's gender problem.
So suck it women haters. Now we just need you people to make some more films with goddam funny women. We have proved we will show up in droves. Doesn't need to be based on a TV show like Sex and the City. Women will come if the film is good and we are not pandered to.

Yep, Sophia Savage is right on! We finally saw "Bidesmaids" last weekend, and even though I had been pretty closely tracking it from your posts, the movie was a little different from my preconception. I really should have known that previews can/usually are very misleading; based on them, I expected the movie to have more ensemble comic pieces vs Annie's story. Though I think that some pieces could've been shortened/tightened, I thought the movie was quite good, and really appreciate the fact that the characters were complex ones (not merely stereotypes, especially Megan). More please!
