Sundance US Competition List a Disappointing Tumble from Last Year's Equality Benchmark

At last year's Sundance, the future looked rosy, with half of all U.S. narrative features and documentaries on the Park City festival lineup coming from female filmmakers. It was a promising benchmark -- and sadly, not one to be reached next year.

TIFF 13- Dispatch 1: Mid-Life Women in Crisis

This is my third Toronto Film Festival and I am starting to understand how to manage it. It is an endurance test. You need to go whole hog one day and then back off a little the next in order to make it a whole week. Also it takes a while to put into words what you are seeing.

TIFF Preview: The Female Directing Masters Playing at the 2012 Toronto Film Festival

The Toronto Film Festival opens tonight.  Over the next 10 days there will be a couple of hundred movies to be seen.  This is one festival where you can make a decision to see films by women and see plenty of films.  There are some extraordinarily high profile female directors opening films at the festival.

TIFF Preview: Women Directors to Watch

The Toronto Film Festival launches tomorrow and there are women directors all over the lineup. We reached out to a couple of directors whose careers are on the way up (we will have some of our masters for you tomorrow) and asked them to answer a couple of questions as the Festival kicks off. I will try and see as many films as possible over the 8 days in Toronto. Please follow me on twitter @melsil and/or follow Women and Hollywood on Facebook for updates throughout the day.
