Cynthia Lopez has been named the new chief of the New York City Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre and Broadcasting.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that around 200 films are made each year in New York. Twenty-nine TV shows are currently produced in the city as well. An estimated 130,000 New Yorkers are employed by the film and TV industries.

The Office of Film, Theatre, and Broadcasting offers tax credits and smooths out the permit process.

Previously, Lopez was an Executive Vice President for PBS' POV documentary series. During her tenure, the program won numerous awards, including 33 Emmys and a MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions.
