The Big O: Oscar Didn't Always Have a Horror Problem

There is a new Carrie in town. She has access to the Internet now and her high-school tormentors use their smart phones to broadcast her shower-scene to even greater embarrassment. But the wallflower is up to her old telekinetic tricks, pulling off a prom massacre at an even great body count than in the 1976 original.

Kimberly Peirce's Carrie and Diablo Cody's Paradise Go Head to Head on October 18th

It's not like we get that many women directed films so it is always baffling films -- especially such high profile films like Kimberly Peirce's remake of Carrie and Oscar winner Diablo Cody's directorial debut Paradise -- will open on the same weekend. Granted they are different kinds of movies in different genres, but still, it's hard enough to get people to see one women directed film on a weekend, let alone two.

Trailer Watch: Carrie - Directed by Kimberly Peirce, Starring Chloe Grace Moretz

It's a little hard not to be wary of a Carrie remake. The iconic 1976 film starring Sissy Spacek and a terrifying Piper Laurie is one of my favorite horror movies. But bring in acclaimed director Kimberly Peirce, one of my all-time favorite actresses Julianne Moore and arguably one of the best young actresses working right now, Chloe Grace Moretz as Carrie--it's hard not to be sold. The teaser trailer cements that this will be a movie to see when it hits theaters in the spring.
