Glenn Close: three-time Tony-winner and six-time Oscar-nominee

The amazing Glenn Close is about to join Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy as head of the Nova Cops--a space police force.

Our friends over at The Mary Sue broke Close's casting down in terms of The Avengers. Basically, Close will be playing the Nick Fury (as played by Samuel L. Jackson) role in the film. Fury is the head of S.H.I.E.L.D., an espionage and law-enforcement agency and a complete and utter bad ass.

Close will be playing a bad ass, police head, who might also be an alien? Sign us up!  As of now, details are scarce about the character. But with the previous casting of Zoe Saldana as the female lead, Gamora, a green-skinned humanoid and an excellent assassin--it sounds like women are going to be ruling this movie.

We are plenty ready for more comic book movies that showcase some awesome women and it sounds like Guardians of the Galaxy is going to be one of them.

As a geek who loves this team, two women is weak sauce. They left out three women from the comic, all important: Quasar, Moondragon, & my personal favorite, Mantis from all promo material to date. This was a gender balanced team with a lesbian couple in the storyline the movie will almost certainly draw from. No congrats in order yet.
