Gravity hit big at the box office over the weekend, grossing much more than was predicted for Alfonso Cuaron's sci-fi epic starring Sandra Bullock.

The film grossed $55.6 million, making it the best October opening weekend in history. Gravity had a huge jump from Friday's $16.1 million to Saturday's $23 million. 80% of the tickets sold were for 3D, IMAX or both.

In other news, Nicole Holofcener's Enough Said expanded to 437 theaters in its third weekend in theaters. The Julia Louis-Dreyfus starring romantic comedy is holding steady at the box office earning $2.15 million. Fox Searchlight plans on expanding the film again next weekend, bringing the theater count to between 600 and 650.
