Want to Write a Guest Post for Women and ...Kathryn Bigelow Talks Making Zero Dark Thirty with Martha Raddatz
Bigelow and screenwriter, Mark Boal, discussed how the project originally focusing around the attempt to kill Bin Laden in the Tora Bora mountains in Afghanistan. However, after President Obama’s May 2011 announcement that Bin Laden had been killed that changed the whole scope of their film.
Boal’s intense investigation into Bin Laden’s death led to the discovery that a young female CIA officer played a major role in the Bin Laden raid. Upon this discovery, Bigelow was eager to continue making the film. “When I realized at the heart of this hunt, at the heart of this 10-year odyssey was this woman, this young woman who had a kind of tenacity and a dedication and a courage, she would never say no, I was excited to take it on.”
Raddatz’s interview with Bigelow and Boal also provides a peek at some new clips from the film, including a particularly intriguing clip with Jessica Chastain’s Maya telling her team as they look at a replica of the compound, that “Bin Laden is there and you are going to kill him for me.”
Zero Dark Thirty can’t come quickly enough with a limited run on December 19th and wide release January 11th.
