Kerry Washington is on a roll.  She was in the hugely successful Django Unchained.  She's in one of the hottest shows on TV as the star -- Olivia Pope -- who is in love with the President of the United States -- did you see that episode last night?  Her new movie Peeples is in theaters now. She's also a huge advocate for women and is also very politically active. Basically, she's flawless.

She finally just snagged her first fashion magazine cover with Elle's June issue. The lingering question is, why is this her first cover? Washington has been working in Hollywood for such a long time--she's a hugely accomplished actress and has been nominated for numerous awards.

Washington told Elle that she's "the luckiest broad in Hollywood now. To be the lead actor on Scandal and to be in the highest-earning Tarantino movie--I don't get to ask for more."

We are so lucky to have Washington's face on our newsstands when the issue hits on May 21st but we wish it hadn't inexplicably taken so long for it to get there.

Question: '"The lingering question is, why is this her first cover? Washington has been working in Hollywood for such a long time--she's a hugely accomplished actress and has been nominated for numerous awards. "'
My Answer: Duh... 'CAUSE SHE'S BLACK!!!
This is why African-Americans (and other ethnic groups) have their own magazines because non-ethnic magazines are geared predominated towards white readers hence they would never (or very, very, very, VERY rarely) put her -- nor any non-white actor -- on their magazine covers.
