Over the past couple days multiple networks (and Netflix) have been reporting about a slew of women-created and women-focused TV projects that are currently in development. As we reported today, women made 26% of the television shows in the 2011-2012 season.  As we go into a new season of television (expect some great coverage from us), let's hope that these new projects will help up these numbers. And with projects coming from brilliant writers like Sarah Haskins and Leslye Headland, executive producers Jennifer Lopez, Ellen DeGeneres and Renée Zellweger--it's hard not to be optimistic about the future of women creating TV programming.

All the links from the Will Ferrell article down aren't working.

And if I sound pessimistic it is because I have been conditioned over many years by Hollywood to expect sexist, vapid, garbage from "women's content"

I do hope it helps, but the current women of Hollywood have benefited from the sexist system that exists and are still creating programming that needs male approval to make it on TV. So I doubt there will be a change. These women are too invested in Hollywood status quo. They need to go outside of the current system to produce a change for women audiences. Keep in mind as a member of the potential female audience I expect to be entertained (just like the male audience) and if this is more of the SOS with a woman's name in the director producer slot I won't be watching.

Jennifer Lopez doesn't mean women in Hollywood are developing or Renee Zellweger. They're lovely people using their name and fame as an actresses to dip their big toe in the water. Women showrunners getting overall deals, developing, having their shows picked up and supported by the network is progress. Jennifer Lopez is a carnival act who sings a little, judges, acts and models. She will be bored of producing in two years.
