An American tourist in Africa falls for a Kenyan man in Rebecca Walker's "Ade: A Love Story."

Madonna has announced her third feature-directing project: an adaptation of Rebecca Walker's debut novel Ade: A Love Story

Published last fall, Ade: A Love Story follows a 19-year-old American protagonist with a Christian mother and Jewish father (much like Walker's own parents, author Alice Walker and civil-rights lawyer Mel Leventhal). While traveling off the coast of Kenya with a friend, she meets and falls in love with a Muslim man. They plan to marry, but their happily-ever-after is waylaid, first by a bout of malaria, then by a civil war.

Madonna's last film was 2011's royal romance W.E.
