Written by King and directed by Lesli Linka Glatter, Now and Then, focused on a group of 4 friends during the summer of 1970 and their reunion later as adults. After its release in October 1995, Now and Later, starring Christina Ricci, Demi Moore and Rosie O'Donnell, went on to make $38 million at the box office and stole the hearts of current twentysomethings.
King oversees Pretty Little Liars, which is currently in its 3rd season. Based on the series of novels by Sara Shepard, the show follows a group of 4 friends who attempt to solve the murder of their best friend while being threatened by an anonymous source.
Pretty Little Liars has proven to be more than just solely a guilty pleasure with the excellent and continued storyline of Emily (Shay Mitchell) coming out as a lesbian. King has handled Emily’s coming out with honesty and deftness on a show that isn’t always grounded in reality. I am excited to see what King does with this upcoming project.
