Sorry Rex Reed—looks like there are many, many people who want to see a Melissa McCarthy starring in a movie.

Despite the blizzard on the east coast, McCarthy’s Identity Thief opened with $36.6 million, which right now holds as the biggest movie opening of the year thus far (second is Jessica Chastain’s Mama). In second place was the Rooney Mara starring, Side Effects, which made about $10 million.

McCarthy’s next major film is The Heat, alongside Sandra Bullock, which will be released in June. And I’ll bet those are numbers that will continue to prove how much we love a funny lady like McCarthy.
