Wuthering Heights, Zero Dark Thirty and Middle of Nowhere weren't released in the UK this year, and I think that is one of the criteria. I'm sure ZDT would have made the list otherwise. I'm a huge supporter of women directors, but I'm not sure any will make my Top 10 this year. Sally Potter's Ginger and Rosa and Sally El Hosaini's My Brother the Devil are definitely in the mix, but in the end it will come down to preference alone. I agree it's depressing.
