Golden Globe Noms Reflect the Status Quo of Hollywood Sexism

The 2014 Golden Globe Awards have us excited about Tina Fey and Amy Poehler's return to hosting duties and... that's about it. With no women directors of live-action films or female screenwriters among the film nominees, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association inadvertently exposed the Grand Canyon-esque gender gaps in the movie industry.

How Can We Still be Talking About Whether Women Are Funny?

Yesterday morning brought the great news that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey will be hosting the Golden Globes in 2014 and 2015. They were so terrific as hosts last year that the Globe people were smart to lock them in for an extended run.

While we here at Women and Hollywood had many problems with the Oscars executive produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the Academy is very pleased that the show was able to bring in that coveted young male demographic. They are so happy that they made the early decision to rehire Meron and Zadan to be the 2014 producers for the event which will take place next March 2.

Thoughts on the Golden Globes - Girls Literally Ruled

Last night, I ended up watching the Golden Globes in real time (with the commercials too.) The reason why that was possible was because of twitter and because I was having such a good time watching the show.  It felt lighter than in years past.  I am guessing a lot of that had to do with the tone that Amy Poehler and Tina Fey in their terrific opening monologue (which you can see below and is worth another watch.)  They told some really funny jokes and the one I enjoyed most was their statement of support for Kathryn Bigelow.  "When it comes to torture I trust the lady that spent 3 years married to James Cameron."  Awesome.
