Why Women in Power Positions Matter

While we are stil digesting the bad news from yesterday with the release of statistics on the low amount of women onscreen in films, TV continues to be the bright spot regarding women's representation onscreen. But as the film study showed, having women in leadership behinds the scenes matters to what we see onscreen, and the recently renewed Nashville is a sterling example of the importance of women's leadership.

Interview with Callie Khouri - Creator of Nashville

Women and Hollywood is a big fan of Nashville (we love Connie Britton) and Callie Khouri.  We were excited to get an opportunity to talk with Ms. Khouri as the show returns with a new episode tonight at 10pm on ABC.

Academy Award Winning Writer Callie Khouri Slams Movies About Women As Relegated to Trash Heap

Callie Khouri gave the movie business a lot of years of her life.  It's been an up and down relationship.  The up - winning an Academy Award for writing Thelma and Louise.  The down - wanting to direct and getting pigeon holed into the chick flick box because she had made a movie about women.

Must Watch: Nashville-Created by Callie Khouri

For me Connie Britton can do no wrong.  She was phenomenal as one of my all-time favorite TV characters, Tami Taylor in Friday Night Lights, and on top of that she’s an outspoken advocate for women’s health.  Now she is paired with Oscar-winning writer of Thelma & Louise, Callie Khouri and the equally great Hayden Panettiere in my new favorite show of the fall, Nashville which premieres tonight on ABC.  We here at Women and Hollywood are thrilled that she is now front and center of this new show.

Thelma and Louise Turns 20

I can't believe that it is 20 years since Thelma and Louise was released. We still have so much work to do. This is a movie that resonated with people in a profound way, it's a movie that people still think about fondly, yet sadly it is a movie that never effected any long term change for women in Hollywood.

Thelma and Louise and What Could Have Been

When you spend so much time online one thing that suffers is off line reading. So, I am perpetually playing catch up to things that can't be read online. One of the pieces I just caught up with is "The Ride of a Lifetime" in the Hollywood issue of Vanity Fair which was about the making of the groundbreaking film Thelma and Louise.
