Women and Hollywood


Melissa Silverstein is the founder and editor of Women and Hollywood, one of the most respected sites for issues related to women and film as well as other areas of pop culture. Women and Hollywood educates, advocates, and agitates for gender parity across the entertainment industry.

She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Athena Film Festival. The 4th annual festival took place from February 6-9, 2014 at Barnard College in NYC.

Melissa recently published the first book from Women and Hollywood, In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing, which is a compilation of over 40 interviews that have appeared on the site.

J.K. Rowling to Write Harry Potter Inspired Film Series

J.K. Rowling has teamed up with Warner Bros. to write a film series inspired by Rowling's Harry Potter series. This will be her screenwriting debut.

J.K. Rowling Fooled Everyone With Latest Novel

In April, The Cuckoo's Calling by Robert Galbraith, was published. The book focused on private investigator, Cormoran Strike, who lost a leg in Afghanistan, his girlfriend left him and he is down to one client. Strike ends up investigating the case of famed supermodel, Lula Landry (known as the Cuckoo to friends). Landry's brother, John Bristow, doesn't believe that Landry's death was a suicide and Strike is sucked into the glamorous world that Landry inhabited to find out what really happened.
