Women and Hollywood

Melissa Silverstein is the founder and editor of Women and Hollywood, one of the most respected sites for issues related to women and film as well as other areas of pop culture. Women and Hollywood educates, advocates, and agitates for gender parity across the entertainment industry.

She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Athena Film Festival. The 4th annual festival took place from February 6-9, 2014 at Barnard College in NYC.

Melissa recently published the first book from Women and Hollywood, In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing, which is a compilation of over 40 interviews that have appeared on the site.

Sherri Lansing, Keri Putnam, Callie Khouri, Kasi Lemmons to be Honored at Athena FF

The Fourth Annual Athena Film Festival will present former Paramount and 20th Century Fox chief Sherry Lansing with the Laura Ziskin Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as salute Sundance Executive Director Keri Putnam, Nashville showrunner Callie Khouri, and Black Nativity director Kasi Lemmons.

Jane Fonda Receives Sherry Lansing Leadership Awards

At the Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment breakfast in LA last week, Jane Fonda who has been an advocate for women and girls issues for many years -- first by starting the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention and for being a co-founder of The Women's Media Center -- received the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award. Here's her speech.
