Jennifer Lopez doesn't get enough credit for her reinventions.
Since the early 1990s, the former Fly Girl has tried on as many showbiz hats as Madonna: fashion icon, Latin ingenue, pop star, businesswoman, rom-com sweetheart, American Idol judge, been-there-done-that diva. Not all of those subsidiaries of Jennifer Lopez Inc. proved viable, but the Out of Sight star's willingness to keep trying new things has certainly ensured her career longevity.
Now Lopez is poised for a comeback of sorts -- this time as a serious actress. Lopez will return to TV for the 2015-16 season as the lead in the NBC cop drama Shades of Blue. The Ryan Seacrest-produced show, which has already received a series order, will have Lopez playing Harlee McCord, "a single mother and dirty cop recruited to work undercover for the FBI's anti-corruption task force," according to The Hollywood Reporter. Her character will be "compromised by her [FBI] colleagues -- all of whom also pitch in to help raise her daughter -- and [will] find herself faced with the moral dilemma of working against her cop brothers in order to redeem herself."
