Peggy Olson

It's no surprise that Peggy Olson, played by the wonderful Elisabeth Moss, on Mad Men is one of our favorite female characters on television. We've watched Peggy evolve from a shy secretary, to a young copywriter to the Peggy of this past season, a 29 year old copy chief who is always leaning in so hard.

Elisa Kriesinger, of Pop Culture Pirate, who previously made brilliant video mashups queering shows like Sex and the City and The Real Housewives of New York took our beloved and marked her evolution through all six seasons of Mad Men

And judging from Sunday's season finale, next season Peggy should basically be running everything.

Watch Peggy's evolution below.

I hate to be a spoilsport but Mad Men has shortchanged the feminist movement. The show never mentioned any watershed feminist event that happened in the 60's: Betty Friedan's bestseller The Feminine Mystique, the founding of National Organization for Women, the protests at the Miss America Pagent and so many other events. It has never had a feminist activist on the show and if it did, I'm not so sure she would be portrayed with any real sympathy. To top it off, Elizabeth Moss has denied that Peggy Olson is a feminist. Mad Men owes some of its success to feminism. It's about time that feminists told Matt Weiner to start giving them the credit they so richly deserve.

I don't want to be pandered to with a bunch of anachronistically empowered feminist characters talking about women's liberation to an Aretha Franklin soundtrack. I want real.
