Women and Hollywood

Melissa Silverstein is the founder and editor of Women and Hollywood, one of the most respected sites for issues related to women and film as well as other areas of pop culture. Women and Hollywood educates, advocates, and agitates for gender parity across the entertainment industry.

She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Athena Film Festival. The 4th annual festival will take place from February 6-9, 2014 at Barnard College in NYC.

Melissa recently published the first book from Women and Hollywood, In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing, which is a compilation of over 40 interviews that have appeared on the site.

Reviews

Comedies today seem to always go for the broadest, raunchiest laughs. The audience is not trusted to get the comedic nuances in everyday life. That is not the case with the new film Admission written by Karen Croner, directed by Paul Weitz and based on the book by Jean Hanff Korelitz.

Tina Fey stars in Admission, adapted by Karen Croner from a novel by Jean Hanff Korelitz, a film that looks to be more of a dramatic foray for Fey. She plays a college admissions officer who receives a call from a high school teacher (Paul Rudd) who believes a student of his may be the son she gave up for adoption when she was in college.
