Women and Hollywood

Melissa Silverstein is the founder and editor of Women and Hollywood, one of the most respected sites for issues related to women and film as well as other areas of pop culture. Women and Hollywood educates, advocates, and agitates for gender parity across the entertainment industry.

She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Athena Film Festival. The 4th annual festival will take place from February 6-9, 2014 at Barnard College in NYC.

Melissa recently published the first book from Women and Hollywood, In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing, which is a compilation of over 40 interviews that have appeared on the site.

Based on the YA series by Cassandra Clare, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones follows Clary Fray (Lilly Collins), your typical teenage girl until she finds out she's not so typical. After the disappearance of her mother (Lena Headey), Clary discovers that she is part of a line of Shadowhunters, a group of half-angel warriors who protect the world from demons. She teams up with a group of them to find her mother and discovers an alternate world she never knew.

Adapted by Pretty Little Liars showrunner, I. Marlene King, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones follows Clary Fray (Lily Collins), a seemingly normal teenage girl until her mother (Lena Headey) is captured by a demon and Clary begins to find out that she's not as normal (she's actually a half-angel demon warrior) as she thought.
