Women and Hollywood


Melissa Silverstein is the founder and editor of Women and Hollywood, one of the most respected sites for issues related to women and film as well as other areas of pop culture. Women and Hollywood educates, advocates, and agitates for gender parity across the entertainment industry.

She is also the co-founder and Artistic Director of The Athena Film Festival. The 4th annual festival took place from February 6-9, 2014 at Barnard College in NYC.

Melissa recently published the first book from Women and Hollywood, In Her Voice: Women Directors Talk Directing, which is a compilation of over 40 interviews that have appeared on the site.

TIFF Women Directors: Meet Megan Griffiths

Megan Griffiths was born in Athens, Ohio and received her MFA in film from Ohio University. She has written and directed the short films Moving (08), and Eros (09), and the features First Aid for Choking (03), The Off Hours (11), and Eden (12), which received the Audience Award and the Emergent Narrative Female Director Award at SWSW.

Women and Hollywood Events in Toronto 2013

I heading up to the Toronto Film Festival for the third time and again the anxiety of creating a decent schedule has set in. We will have a new feature on the site this year - Meet the Women Directors. We sent out some questions to women directors whose films are in the festival and we will be bringing you their answers in the coming days.
